Dr. Tim Anderson

Therapy for adults and children in NE Portland. Warm, down-to-earth support for anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress — with practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control.

About Me

I'm a psychologist who helps children, teens, and adults better understand their emotions, manage anxiety, and build more connected, fulfilling lives.

Life can feel overwhelming — anxiety that won't quiet down, a low mood that lingers, old wounds that keep showing up in new relationships, or anger and stress that seem to run the show. Therapy offers a place to slow down and make sense of it. My style is friendly, warm, and sometimes direct: together we'll explore your thoughts, emotions, and relationships to build real insight, while developing practical tools you can actually use day to day. I draw on CBT, DBT, and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring the work to what fits you. I also work with children, using play and creative approaches to support emotional growth in a way that feels natural to them.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of experience, with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a master's in Counseling Psychology. I've practiced in San Francisco, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, and Oregon, and I now see clients at Portland Counseling and Behavioral Health in the Woodlawn neighborhood of NE Portland. Outside the office, you'll find me with family and friends, adventuring with my golden retriever, or playing heavy metal music.

Fees and Insurance

Individual sessions are $160. A sliding scale is available on an individual basis — if cost is a concern, please reach out and we can talk about what's workable.

I'm in-network with the following insurance plans:

  • Aetna

  • Blue Cross / Blue Shield (BCBS)

  • First Choice Health (FCH)

  • Meritain Health

  • Optum

  • Providence

  • UnitedHealthcare / Optum EAP

Out-of-network? If your plan isn't listed, I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Many plans offer partial out-of-network coverage — it's worth a quick call to your insurer to ask about your "out-of-network outpatient mental health" benefits.

Not sure what your plan covers? Contact me and I'm happy to help you figure it out.
